According to the advertisements (and Wikipedia), the film Live Free or Die Hard is being marked as Die Hard 4.0 outside of North America.
This is too many significant digits.
It’s a version number, not a decimal number. Therefore “4.0” makes perfect sense, and indicates that the next Die Hard movie is to the previous Die Hard movie as Windows 95 was to Windows 3.0!
Doesn’t that just fill you with anticipation?
I understand that the plot of the movie is to do with computers. Hence they put »4.0« in the title so it would look more computerese. Compare »The Matrix – Reloaded«.
Anselm – or maybe it’s not the plot, but version 4.0 of how to replace a plot with overuse of CGI?
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this.
I think I will wait till Die Hard 4.1 is released.
But cardinal numbers are exact figures — since movies are discrete things (if not always discreet things) in a set and the 4 is counting them, the number technically could have infinite precision and is not incorrect…
