One of my pet peeves is people telling a non-native speaker of a language that they have no accent.

Saying that a person has no accent is like saying that they have no temperature. Annoyingly, people frequently say that also.

One nice way to put it is: "Your English is better than my (...put native language here...)."

just as silly is when people say "i could tell you had an accent" after having been told that fillinthelanguagehere is not one's "native" language.

I suppose it would be more correct to say that they have no relative accent, but it's surely quite clear that this is already implied.
